The 1990s
Business was good in the late 80s. Anton was travelling frequently to Yorkshire to organise and manage production of the orders. In view of this, we decided that we would buy a small cottage in Yorkshire and work there during the week, returning to London for the weekend. We found a place to buy in 1989 and shortly after that, we decided that we would get a dog as well. Prince came into our lives in the summer of 1989.
As time went by, we found that we enjoyed the lifestyle of the North and decided then that we would move up full time to live in Haworth. In 1992, I decided that Prince would benefit with a companion and bought Lady from a kennel near Manchester.
One of the things that Anton enjoyed most in the summer was to barbecue. This was one of his ways to relax as it took his mind off the business. When we lived in London, as we had a garden, we would invariably have a barbecue most weekends.
When we bought our cottage in Haworth, we did not want a garden as we thought we'd only be there during the week. Luckily at that time, the Baptist Church across the road had some land, which we rented and made that our garden.
Mixing Business with Pleasure
In the early 1990s, business with the Far East was good. It gave me the opportunity of visiting my mother who lived in Singapore. We'd try to tag a holiday in the area at the end of the business trip, but it usually turned out that we'd combine the holiday with business. This is one of the occasions in Phuket, Thailand.
Christmas 1994
Anton's brother David, who lived in Sydney Australia, visited in December 1994. Their mother, Mary had moved from London a year ago to live in Haworth, just 5 minutes' walk from us. The house she lived in was refurbished in a way that we could work from there in the daytime and also provide a self-contained section for visitors. David and his family stayed in that part of the house.
We were also joined by his brother Peter and his wife Valerie and his sister Yvonne and her husband 'Bernie' and also his aunt, his mother's sister, Pat.
